Forbes Health: Ketamine for depression — Does it work?

Thanks to Forbes Health for including my thoughts in their recent article about ketamine and whether it can help individuals dealing with depression. Numerous studies over recent years have found “robust, rapid and transient antidepressant and antisocial effects” as a result of ketamine treatment (Walsh et al., 2021). A meta-analysis published in 2022 even noted that “the most treatment-resistant patients may benefit from ketamine” and repeated treatments may help maintain the beneficial effects (Alnefeesi et al., 2022).

To get a better idea of how ketamine works on the brain, and how treatment works at clinics like Numinus, feel free to take a look at the article. Under the right circumstances, ketamine shows enormous promise as a treatment for depression. But no single treatment is right for everyone, so I always recommend that potential clients take their questions to an experienced clinician to see if they would be a good candidate and to get individualized treatment plans and psychological support along the way.
