Psychedelic Therapy Frontiers: Treating trauma with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy

This week’s episode is dedicated to trauma and how we can treat it. Dr. Steve Thayer and I are are also joined by Hannah Cross, LCSW, an expert trauma therapist. We begin by discussing what trauma is—how it’s really not the event or what happened, but what happens next. Trauma is how we process those events, because they can be so overwhelming that they shut down the normal response. We also spend some time talking about how trauma impacts not only the mind but also the nervous system and body as a whole, which is why somatic therapy work can be especially helpful. We also discuss how various methods of therapy, including psychedelics, can help patients open up, work through, and release their trauma to find long-term healing.
