Psychedelic Therapy Frontiers: Treating eating disorders with ketamine-assisted psychotherapy

In this week’s episode, Steve and I address the complex factors surrounding eating disorders. Are these psychological conditions environmental or genetic? The short answer is both. There are both biological underpinnings, as well as environmental/societal pressures that contribute to disordered eating disorders. This helps explain some of why they can be so hard to treat and fully recover from. We also talk about the fact that these conditions aren’t exclusive to teenage girls or women, though culturally, we tend to put more pressure on females to look a certain way. We also talk about what “healthy” looks like—health is achieved at nearly any size and BMI isn’t always a fair measurement. And finally, we cover the promising outlook of psychedelics for treating eating disorders—how they allow individuals to connect with and feel a gratitude for their bodies in a way that hasn’t been achieved in the past. If this piques your interest, I recommend you give it a listen!
